Facebook agrees to pay fine over Cambridge Analytica scandal

Facebook has agreed to a fine of £ 500,000 (Rs 5.57 crore), for its role in the Cambridge Analytica privacy scandal. This was announced by the UK’s information regulatory watchdog Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

Facebook was fined last November after it said data from at least 1 million Britons had been among the information harvested by Cambridge Analytica and used for political purposes.

It is the maximum fine the ICO could issue. According to the ICO, Facebook violated the law by insufficiently protecting users’ personal information.

The investigation found that between 2007 and 2014, app developers had access to personal information of Facebook users without their informed consent.
